It’s not surprising that demand for high CBD strains is keeping pace with the rising awareness of CBD’s medicinal benefits.
But up until recently, THC, the psychoactive cannabis compound, reigned supreme in the world of recreational marijuana.
Before cannabis became legal in Colorado and other states, the most desirable cannabis strains available in the black market were cultivated to have high amounts of THC.
The focus on elevated levels of THC was likely due to consumers wanting to get the highest “high” for their dollar. This demand continues to be supported by the rise in sales of cannabis concentrates today.
Enter CBD Strains
In recent years, as cannabis has reached mainstream culture (with more than 60% of the population approving the legalization on marijuana), CBD strains have been lifted into the limelight for their apparent medicinal benefits.
CBD strains have also become more appealing to recreational cannabis users, due to their comfortable, therapeutic mind-body effects and absence of adverse effects like high-anxiety and paranoia.
With a nod to the THC-CBD combo lover, in addition to high-CBD/low-THC options like Harmonia and The Remedy, The Farm is proud to also offer a new, generous-THC/high-CBD marijuana strain—Cherry Mender.
What is CBD?
CBD stands for cannabidiol, the most abundant compound in cannabis after THC. Cannabidiol does not affect the brain in the same way as THC. Instead, in recent studies, CBD has been shown to exhibit anti-anxiety, anti-inflammatory and analgesic qualities. CBD’s properties provide non-intoxicating, relaxing, physical relief in various medical applications.
People looking for relief from chronic pain, nausea, insomnia and anxiety, for example, have reported positive results from consuming CBD. Recent findings also show that CBD may be favorable for medical conditions that are challenging to overcome, such as PTSD, Crohn’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and Dravet’s Syndrome, a rare epileptic condition that affects children.
What is THC?
Of more than 100 chemical compounds found in the cannabis plant, THC is the most abundant. Defined as delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol in chemistry circles, THC is also the most well-known cannabinoid, likely due to its psychotropic effects. So it is THC that affects the human body by producing the infamous mind-altering “high” sensation in the body.
The short-term effects of THC, which vary from person to person, are primarily soothing and can include feelings ranging from a strong mind-body connection, joy and pain relief, to hunger, drowsiness and relief from anxiety. For some people, especially ones new to cannabis, large doses of THC can have an opposite, biphasic effect, that may include anxiety and even paranoia.
What are The Farm’s Best High CBD Strains?
Nowadays, there is a growing number of cannabis consumers seeking the best of both worlds: a continuum of cultivars offering high amounts of CBD and negligible amounts of THC, to marijuana strains with generous amounts of THC, but also with plenty of CBD.
Knowing how much of each of these two cannabinoids to consume is a matter of personal taste and desired physical experience. High-THC strains are generally considered to have levels upwards of 20%; whereas CBD levels of about 5% of more are considered to be high.
Rather than pit CBD against THC, due to the benefits of the entourage effect, The Farm cultivates craft cannabis strains with various CBD:THC ratios to fit the gamut of cannabis aficionados.
On one side of the spectrum are several THC-heavy strains like the Ghost Trainwreck Haze #9 sativa, and the powerful BackBeat OG indica by The Farm Genetics™ (both recently reaching upwards of 30% THC).
On the flip side of The Farm’s craft cannabis offering are cultivars offering a variety of the best CBD strains: Harmonia, Cherry Mender, and The Remedy.
OUR CBD-RICH STRAINS
Harmonia offers a 2:1 CBD to THC distribution, with a helping of about 12% CBD and 6% THC, perfect for the novice cannabis consumer, those sensitive to psychoactive effects or patients treating pain, inflammation, or anxiety.
Descendant from Pure Kush/LA-Confidential, and Sweet Tooth/Juicy Fruit hybrid parents, Harmonia has an aroma of sweet lemon and berries. It delivers functional, clear-headed effects that allow you to stay active and productive throughout the day.
Harmonia is available as flower, and as a pure CO2-extracted hash oil in IndigoPro‘s vaporizer cartridges.
Cannabis tinctures were widely used and often formulated by local apothecary shops, up until the 1930’s. The Farm Genetics™ team has created a strain that celebrates this rich history of cannabis as a holistic remedy.
Designed for the novice to intermediate cannabis consumer, Cherry Mender offers a unique 2:3 ratio of CBD to THC, with CBD levels reaching 12% and THC levels around 18%. The CBD helps to relieve muscle tension and enhances the THC to encourage deep mental relaxation.
The Remedy, a Cannatonic and Afghan Skunk cross, offers a different kind of experience. Users of this indica-dominant cultivar report alleviation from body tension and easing of an anxious mind. All this with little to none of the traditional psychoactive effects associated with THC.
With a CBD:THC ratio upwards of 25:1, The Remedy stands out as The Farm’s richest CBD strain. Having recently won for Best CBD Flower at the 2017 Dope Cup Colorado, it is The Farm’s alternative to Charlotte’s Web. The Remedy’s aroma blends red berry, forest pine and woody incense that helps carry the pleasing and relaxing effects.
